Biography

Archaeologist, with research focus on Bronze Age archaeology in Northwest China, Russia, and Iran. Prior to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, he had directed a field project in Iran and Russia especially. Together with graduate students, he is exploring a number of frontier fields, including ceramics, economic archaeology, early use of soil, archaeology of food. He is currently running a major project 'Ancient Ceramic Exchanges between China and West Asia: Trade, Imitation and Innovation', funded by the National Foundation for Social Sciences. He has published more than 50 papers in domestic and foreign journals, a monograph 'Ancient Metallurgy and Society' and an anthology 东学西问 (Learn the East, Ask the East).
